UNDOCUMENTED BOXING & FIGHT CLUBS
A teenage Kentucky viewer informed me of the problem he has in learning how to box. The young man has the desire, but he
is in an isolated rural part of the state where there are no boxing gyms for hundreds of miles. He has the support of his
parents but boxing clubs are far out of reach. He would like to compete and spar just like young fighters in more populated
areas.
For people who are in similar situations, do not get down or frustrated about not having people to teach you boxing or
any fighting skill. Your desire to fight and compete will help you overcome.
From the beginning of time, no matter what continent, men have walked out into the fields and fought without a partner.
They experimented with techniques that they felt would protect them from harm. Ancient man begin with his pure fighting instincts
and as time went by; he began to create systems of fighting, whether simple like boxing or complicated as the martial arts.
You do not have to have a documented licensed boxing gym to learn boxing and the fighting arts. You can read stories of
fighters who started out being taught by friends and relatives in an informal setting and they turned out to be great fighters.
My first love was professional wrestling. My first sparring partner turned out to be my sister. Both of us were big wrestling
fans. After watching TV wrestling on a black and white television. We wrestled everyday until the next week’s bouts.
Fighting is an instinct as well as a skill. If it is in you to fight, you will find a way to practice your skill.
Smokin’ Joe Frazier started in a poor rural community, but it did not stop him from putting torn clothes on his hands
as hand wraps and put work gloves on to practice punching techniques on a laundry bag stuffed with clothes. Even today, the
Cuban boxing team has some of the most modest training facilities for boxing, but it does not stop them from dominating the
world of amateur boxing.
If you happen to reside in a community where there is not a boxing gym for hundreds of miles, then try some of these ideas.
There may be great fighters within your county or region that may want to join you. If five to ten guys show up, you have
just started an undocumented boxing or fight club.
If you can read this article, then you have a computer. Start out by purchasing videos, DVDs and viewing sites that will
teach you how to box. If no one in your community have been trained in boxing or the fighting arts. It can start with you.
You can be the master of your region. Just be sure that you practice what you preach.
In every community, there are veterans of wars or the armed services such as the Marines or Army, they have had formal
training in throwing deadly punches or Ju Jitsu throws. Approach them; see if they are interested in sharing their knowledge.
Police organizations are always helpful in creating boxing clubs for youth. Start with the sheriff’s department.
There may be someone who is interested in youth activities such as boxing.
If there is a wrestling coach in your local high school. Tell him of your interest in boxing or any other fighting discipline,
Who knows, he may have had training in those areas.
Try organizations such as the Kiwanis Club, American Legion and the Masons. These organizations may have an interest in
helping youth form boxing lessons or a boxing club.
Church organizations.
Advertise in the bigger towns or cities that you want to hire an old boxing pro, a group or personal trainer that specializes
in boxing or martial arts. This professional may be interested in coming to a rural area to teach you or your group. Negotiate
a deal.
If none of these ideas work, then you can teach yourself as I mentioned previously. In every small town, there is a place
where you can buy boxing and fight magazines. Order the info, you and your buddies can teach yourselves.
Post up signs on the roads, pass flyers out and let your friends and neighbors in the surrounding counties know that you
are starting a boxing club. You will be surprised at the response you may get from what you may have thought was a sleepy
little community. The residents may be looking for a reason to get together. Look who may show up at your door.
Kids who been bullied.

The unfit.
People with no confidence.

...And more!
Remember, you may never have a boxing club in your community for a hundred years unless you start it. You don’t even
need to have a gym. You and your friends can start it anywhere. You can start by having your boxing club outside, boot camp
style.
It takes one individual to start a revolution! So why not You!
As usual...
KEEP YOUR GUARD UP, AND KEEP ON PUNCHING!
