Jillian Bullock gathers support and interest from
Hollywood
for her searing and brilliant boxing story
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Philadelphia, PA €“ It seems that the sport of boxing is an exciting
subject in Hollywood
these days with the Oscar winning film €œMillion Dollar Baby,€ the hit
reality television
show €œThe Contender,€ and the upcoming boxing movie €œCinderella
Man.€ Now,
award winning filmmaker Jillian €œThe
Jaguar€ Bullock is bringing €œThe Champion
Inside,€
an inspirational drama
that involves boxing to the silver screen. Jillian, who is
a black
belt in martial arts, was inspired to write the screenplay after
she battled her own
battle
with cancer a few years ago. After she recovered, Jillian added
wrestling and boxing
to her training
program.
The Champion Inside focuses on a professional
female boxer, Leslie Garrett,
who must retire
after she is diagnosed with breast cancer. Her return to boxing, five years
later,
is complicated by her age; she€™s 39, and her fear of stepping back into the ring. The last
time
Leslie was in the ring, she endured a brutal knockout and lost the IFBA welterweight
belt. Two days later, it is discovered she had cancer. Through this intensive drama, the
audience
will understand how Leslie must deal with her emotional demons, her fears, and
how getting
back in that ring is more of a victory than the actual fight to regain the IFBA
title.
Jillian€™s
script has garnished much attention from Hollywood, where she has been offered big bucks for the rights to the script. But
it is understandable why Jillian refused all
offers and has decided
to take on the female role in the film and also wear the producer€™s
hat.
€œThis
story is like my Rocky, in that it€™s very personal and important for me to get
it done and
to get it done right, just like Rocky was for Sylvester Stallone,€ Jillian notes.
€œMany
years ago when I was a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, I talked to Stallone
about why doing
Rocky (his way) was so important to him. He gave me some great insight.€
Jillian
hopes The Champion Inside will entertain as well as educate people in regard
to cancer awareness. She also intends to shed more light into the world of women€™s boxing and the unique challenges
females face in a male dominated sport. Even though The Champion Inside is considered a low budget film (under $5 million)
Jillian, who just started pre-production, is not having any problem getting actors and other people interested in the project.
Actors are willing to take a pay cut and work for union scale and companies, especially sports and fitness companies, are clamoring to get on board through product placement.
€œWhen
you think about the fact that 1,500 Americans die each day from cancer, you
realize that not many people
haven€™t been touched by this deadly disease. People realize that by getting involved in this film they will
be helping me bring an important story to the silver screen,€ Bullock states.
