OPERATING YOUR BOXING, WRESTLING OR MARTIAL ARTS SUMMER CAMP
If you are thinking of starting a summer camp for your club or gym, now is the time to start putting it together. April
is a little late for starting a camp and marketing it, but parents are still shopping around and they will be shopping around
until school ends for the summer.
You can operate a camp for children or adults. Most clubs operate both. The children's version of the summer camp comes
in various ways. There are the camps that run during the day, daily from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. These camps are very profitable
and they usually will start their fees from $110.00 weekly or higher. The children will practice in their discipline, play
games, watch movies on site or at the theater, and go on trips. There is another version of the camp, where children come
to camp for one or two weeks and learn skills and the format is the same as the camps that run all summer.
Then there are adult camps. Adult camps are usually held off site and it gives the clients and students a chance to practice,
relax and bond together. Adult camps are operated on weekends, one week, or several weeks. The camps are held in many different
places, gyms, ballrooms, fitness resorts, offshore islands such as in the Carribean, cruises, national parks, local parks
and 5 star hotels.
The adult camps are somewhat similar to the children's camps whereas they not only have sessions in their disciplines,
but they partake in entertainment activities also. Adult camps are sometimes free, if the club owner is using it as a promotional
tool to sign up new members and they range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand of dollars depending on where the
site for the camp is located and its other extracurricular activities.
Summer camps are very good, especially if your club experiences a serious drop off in the summer. It gives new clientele
a chance to meet you and your staff. The camp gives you a chance to try to sign up new members. The fees are often set higher
than other times of the year. Your club can keep pace with the profits for the rest of the year or you may earn more.
Keep in mind if you run a short term camp, operate it several times during the summer and charge higher fees.
You will find a summer camp to be fun and it will bring your clientele closer together. The camps will also bring in new
clients for the fall.
